There are many different sacrifices we must go through to slim down and reach a weight we are happy with. Unfortunately a lot of these sacrifices are very hard habits to break. In this article we will be looking at ways to lose weight by eliminating alcohol – not the most popular of processes ( believe me! ).
The Main Culprit
Many people are now looking into how to lose weight by eliminating alcohol because of the facts that are freely available. Did you know that one in six people are thought to binge drink several times a month?
I was surprised to learn that this binge drinking level is set at eight drinks a night – the norm when I was a college student! The overall health factor really comes into question when we look at what alcohol does to us – it’s not just about our bulging waistlines!
Social implications seem to be born through misuse of alcohol as well. I often witness many a falling out in local clubs or pubs between people. I often wonder how many relationships come to an abrupt end due to the emotional nature of alcohol?
Why Should You Lose Weight by Eliminating Alcohol?
Well drinking alcohol on a regular basis will make a weight loss regime seem near enough pointless! When you consider a drinking session will almost certainly take you over the 1000 calorie mark you start to see the picture!
This is not just set to the binge drinkers either! If you like a peaceful couple of drinks after work to chill down then you are also topping up your daily calorie count for no reason really.
It’s common place for new dieters to count the calories in their food but then completely forget to count the calories included in their drinks! So many of them go through a dieting regime for a few months only to find out they have lost no weight whatsoever!
The Course of Action
If you are looking to lose weight by eliminating alcohol then you should plan out your course of action carefully. Firstly I have to ask – are you a beer drinker?
There is nothing wrong with this if you are – I love the stuff myself but it’s not exactly complimentary to you belly! If you like a beer or two then I would always recommend going for the American ‘light’ beers. My personal favorite is Coors Lite as it is not at all heavy and it tastes great!
If you are from the posh end of the spectrum ( lucky you! ) then I have a word of warning for you – Stay well clear of champagne! Champagne, in my experience, is one of the worst drinks for a sagging stomach!
If you have to drink anything then I would recommend hitting the red wine. Now I know this particular drink is not everyone’s first choice but give it a go – it might grow on you. When my dad goes on a diet he tends to have one light beer followed by a couple of glasses of red wine ( or more depending on the celebration! ). Try it out for yourself and see how it fits on you!
Ideally we are looking at how to lose weight by eliminating alcohol completely but this is pretty much a long shot – I know that! If you continue to drink ( as most people do! ) then try to implement some damage limitation whenever possible.
You can do this by simply eating healthy foods and making sure you don’t pig out on fast food after you’ve had a couple of swift ones! At the end of the day alcohol is considered empty and worthless calories so if you can cut down you will see a difference in your overall weight.
